Deer Park Terminal Station Augmentation – 7 New 66kV Switchbays

TEC-C delivered brownfield augmentation works at Deer Park Terminal Station, including seven new 66kV switchbays and associated secondary systems updates within a live, operational terminal station environment.

Quick facts

  • Client: Transgrid
  • Location: Deer Park, VIC
  • Delivery model: Design & Construct (D&C) – brownfield augmentation
  • Existing asset environment: Operational 450MVA 220/66/11kV terminal station
  • Scope: 7 new 66kV switchbays
  • Status: Completed and Commissioned

Approach

TEC-C was engaged by Transgrid to deliver the Deer Park Terminal Station augmentation works, comprising the Design and Construction of an augmentation package of seven new 66kV switchbays within an operational 450MVA 220/66/11kV terminal station. The works supported increased 66kV capacity to meet rising downstream demand, including new Data Centres being connected to the distribution network. The station’s original configuration included six 66kV switchbays, and the augmentation more than doubled the outgoing 66kV bay infrastructure.

This was a critical infrastructure brownfield delivery environment where works were executed safely and precisely inside a live substation, with constrained space and multiple interfaces. Delivery required disciplined planning and workface coordination to manage heavy equipment movements, maintain clear access and exclusion zones, and progress construction without impacting the operation of the existing station.

TEC-C’s approach was built around programme discipline and stakeholder management, and strong interface control across Civil, Primary, Secondary Systems and Testing and Commissioning activities. The programme and scope were updated over time to align with downstream connection timing and network requirements, and TEC-C maintained delivery timelines by adapting to Transgrid instructions and delivering the final agreed scope safely and efficiently.

Outcome: Works progressed through staged delivery towards final connections and cutover activities, with construction executed in a live terminal station environment to support timely load connections.
